Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a well-established, financially stable business in West Yorkshire on the appointment of a Software Development Manager. This is a business with a loyal customer base, a strong European presence, and a genuine commitment to investing in its technology future.


About the Role


This isn't a role for someone who wants to keep the lights on. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to come in, ask the difficult questions, and help define what the next chapter of a significant technology landscape looks like.


Responsibilities


  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team of permanent developers and contractors.
  • Challenging existing ways of working and driving modernisation in a measured, collaborative way.
  • Helping to define the technology roadmap for the next 5-10 years.
  • Translating business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Overseeing the full software development lifecycle.
  • Promoting best practice across coding standards, DevOps, security and performance.
  • Staying ahead of emerging technologies - including AI - and helping bring the wider team on that journey.


Qualifications


Progress OpenEdge / ABL experience is essential - you'll need enough technical credibility to earn the respect of an experienced development team from day one.


Required Skills


  • A proven development leader who has managed and developed technical teams.
  • A track record of modernising legacy systems and driving change.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Someone who is genuinely curious, commercially aware, and not afraid to ask why.


Preferred Skills


Critically - you'll need to be someone who can hold their own in a room, challenge the norm constructively, and drive conversations to a conclusion without causing unnecessary disruption. If you're the type who defaults to "that's how it's always been done" this probably isn't the role for you.


Pay range and compensation package


Hybrid working pattern, West Yorkshire based, competitive salary and benefits package.
