Role Description This is an on-site School Counsellor contract role based in Bradford. The School Counsellor will provide small-group counselling sessions to children and young people, using appropriate therapeutic approaches to support emotional, social, and behavioural needs. The role includes conducting initial assessments, maintaining accurate and confidential case notes, and creating tailored support plans. The counsellor will liaise regularly with school staff, designated safeguarding leads, and, where appropriate, parents or caregivers to ensure coordinated support. Additional responsibilities include contributing to wellbeing initiatives, signposting to external services when necessary, and participating in supervision and continuing professional development.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Student Counselling and Counselling, with experience working with children and young people in school or educational settings.
- Recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification (e.g., diploma or degree-level) and membership or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., BACP or equivalent).
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures, including experience working within school safeguarding frameworks and multi-agency contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and record-keeping skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain professional boundaries.
- Experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory practice.
- Ability to work independently on-site, manage a caseload, and participate in regular supervision and ongoing training.
