An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Appointed Person (AP) to take full ownership of planning and delivering safe, compliant lifting operations within a dynamic and fast-paced operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and coordination of all lifting operations in line with LOLER 1998, BS 7121, and industry best practice
  • Produce and approve comprehensive lift plans, RAMS, and technical documentation
  • Select appropriate cranes, lifting equipment, and accessories for each operation
  • Define lifting methodologies, including crane positioning, load calculations, radii, and ground bearing pressures
  • Conduct detailed site surveys, identifying hazards, constraints, and operational risks
  • Act as the central point of contact for lifting operations, liaising with clients, principal contractors, and site teams
  • Ensure lifting activities are carried out under the supervision of competent personnel
  • Deliver clear pre-lift briefings, ensuring all teams fully understand the lift plan
  • Take decisive action to stop operations where safety is compromised
  • Ensure all lifting equipment is fully compliant, certified, and within inspection requirements
  • Verify competence and certification of all personnel involved in lifting operations
  • Monitor external factors such as weather and environmental conditions that may impact safety
  • Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, implementing robust corrective actions
  • Act as the Appointed Person and duty holder for contract lifting operations
  • Ensure clarity of responsibilities, scope, and risk under contract lift agreements
  • Maintain accurate records of lift plans, permits, and operational documentation


Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

  • CPCS or NPORS Appointed Person qualification (or equivalent)
  • Strong working knowledge of LOLER 1998 and BS 7121
  • Proven experience planning and delivering complex and high-risk lifting operations
  • Strong background in sectors such as construction, infrastructure, utilities, or telecoms
  • Experience working in environments with tight deadlines, operational pressures, and strict safety standards
  • Telecoms sector experience is highly desirable, given the nature and expectations of key projects
  • Excellent attention to detail with a safety-first mindset
  • Strong organisational and planning capability
  • Confident decision-maker, able to act quickly in critical situations
  • Effective communicator, able to influence and coordinate multiple stakeholders
  • Technically competent, with the ability to interpret drawings and calculate loads accurately
