Role Background
At BDC Mind, were committed to delivering safe, effective and inclusive services that improve mental health and wellbeing across Bradford District and Craven. As we continue to grow and diversify our services, there is an increasing need for dedicated oversight of quality, safety and practice across the organisation.
This role has been created to strengthen quality assurance, risk management, safeguarding, organisational learning and practice development, ensuring that service improvement learning from incidents, complaints, audits, feedback and service member involvement is fully embedded into service improvement and decision-making.
The role will also provide flexible operational support across services during periods of vacancy, absence, increased demand or organisational change, helping to maintain safe, effective and high-quality service delivery.
Reporting to the Head of Service Quality and Impact, the postholder will work across the organisation, providing leadership and assurance in relation to quality, safety and practice. They will support the leadership team to identify risks, drive continuous improvement, promote consistent standards of practice, and ensure that service development is informed by evidence, feedback and lived experience, while providing additional capacity where services require targeted operational support.
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to strengthen organisation-wide leadership and coordination of quality, safety and practice, ensuring that BDC Mind delivers safe, effective and person-centred services and that learning from experience is translated into meaningful improvement.
As Quality, Safety & Practice Manager, you will work in partnership with managers and teams to strengthen quality assurance, safeguarding, risk management and practice development, promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement, and support consistent standards across the organisation.
Your role will also provide flexible operational support to services during periods of pressure, change or workforce challenge, helping to maintain service stability and high-quality delivery while supporting the organisation to meet its strategic objectives.
Role Outcomes
- Support the Head of Service Quality and Impact to maintain effective quality, safety, safeguarding and risk management arrangements across BDC Mind, ensuring robust governance, organisational assurance and compliance with regulatory, contractual and organisational requirements.
- Coordinate and maintain a comprehensive programme of quality, safeguarding and risk assurance activity, using audits, reviews, incidents, complaints, feedback and lived experience to identify themes, drive organisational learning and support continuous improvement.
- Champion and embed trauma-informed, neuro-diverse, anti-discriminatory and person-centred practice across all services, supporting managers and teams to deliver high-quality, inclusive and culturally responsive services.
- Ensure safeguarding arrangements are effectively implemented, monitored and embedded across the organisation, promoting a culture where concerns are recognised, escalated and managed appropriately.
- Lead the collection and reporting of quality, safeguarding and risk information, ensuring learning, trends and areas of concern are clearly identified and used to inform service improvement, organisational assurance and decision-making.
- Develop positive and productive relationships with managers, teams, service members, partners and stakeholders to strengthen quality, safety, practice and service member influence across the organisation.
- Ensure service members have meaningful opportunities to influence service delivery and organisational priorities, with clear evidence of how feedback and lived experience contribute to improvements in quality, practice and outcomes.
- Ensure service-related risk assessments are maintained, reviewed and completed within agreed timescales, with appropriate controls in place to mitigate identified risks.
- Work collaboratively with the Data and Insights Manager to demonstrate the quality, outcomes and impact of BDC Mind services and ensure organisational learning is informed by robust evidence.
- Provide flexible operational support to services experiencing vacancies, workforce pressures, service change or increased demand, helping to maintain service stability, quality, safety and continuity while supporting managers to address emerging challenges and risks.

- Support the on-call rota to ensure that staff have access to support and guidance out of hours.

- Successfully complete all mandatory and role-specific training to ensure best practices with safeguarding, data protection, health and safety and mental health awareness.
- Adapt to evolving organisational needs by taking on additional responsibilities as required, ensuring a cohesive and effective team approach.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant professional qualification in health, social care, mental health or at least two years experience in a management or leadership role where these areas were a key part of the post
Experience
Essential:
- Experience in mental health, health, social care, voluntary sector or community-based services.
- Experience supporting or leading quality assurance activity, such as audits, reviews, improvement plans or service standards.
- Experience using incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns, feedback, risk or performance information to identify learning and drive improvement.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting safeguarding, serious incident reviews, risk registers, compliance or assurance reporting.
- Experience supporting services during periods of pressure, change, vacancy or increased demand.
- Experience embedding trauma-informed, anti-discriminatory, culturally responsive or lived-experience-informed practice.
- Experience producing clear reports, dashboards or assurance summaries for senior leaders.
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks, themes and practical improvement actions.
- Ability to develop clear tools, guidance, templates or frameworks that support quality, safety, safeguarding and practice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work constructively with people at all levels.
- Ability to lead, influence and support change in line with BDC Minds mission and values.
Desirable:
- Skilled in coaching, supporting and constructively challenging colleagues to strengthen quality and safety.
- Confidence facilitating reflective discussions, learning reviews, workshops or practice development sessions.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Good understanding of quality assurance, safeguarding, risk, incident learning, complaints, feedback and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of how lived experience, service member voice, staff insight and partnership working can improve services.
