Python Software Engineer - #2169607
KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions Ltd
Python Software Engineer
Location: Bradford (Hybrid Work from Home)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Benefits
The Role
Our client is looking for a Python Software Engineer to build the Python services behind their platform. Thousands of devices in the field rely on this platform, and you’ll play a key part in keeping it robust, reliable and scalable.
You’ll own the ingestion pipeline that handles MQTT traffic from thousands of meters, the APIs that expose that data, and the internal services that keep everything consistent. With so many live feeds depending on the platform, getting things right and being able to see what’s happening in real-time is crucial to the product.
You will deploy what you build and look after it once it’s live. You’ll work with a high level of autonomy, making technical decisions yourself. This role will suit an experienced Python engineer who enjoys owning services end to end and wants to work on technology with real impact in the energy sector.
Skills & Experience Required
- Solid experience writing production Python, with a track record of owning services rather than just contributing to them
- Strong backend design skills: APIs (FastAPI, Flask or similar), async programming, data modelling and testing
- Experience handling failure and resilience in message-driven systems
- Comfortable owning a service in production end to end: deploying it, monitoring its health and investigating when things go wrong
- Able to debug across system boundaries, working out whether a problem lies with the device, the broker, the network or the code
- Confident with Linux and Docker, and able to deploy and troubleshoot your own services on Kubernetes
- Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, DynamoDB, IoT Core or equivalents)
- Sound judgement and confidence working on your own
Desirable Skills & Experience
- MQTT or other message brokers, especially with unreliable or intermittently connected clients
- Working with time-series data at volume
- Experience in embedded systems, telemetry or the energy sector
- Python profiling and performance optimisation
What’s on offer
- Up to £60,000 plus benefits
- Hybrid working from home
- Real ownership of the services that underpin a live smart platform
- A role focused on engineering rather than firefighting
