All About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electric Overhead Crane Engineer based in Northern England to join our Asset Care Crane Division. This position will primarily support our Scunthorpe and group operations, with occasional travel to other Barrett Steel sites across the UK.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, inspection, fault diagnosis, and repair of Electric Overhead Travelling Cranes (EOTCs), ensuring maximum reliability, safety, and operational efficiency across the group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that own and team operations, including those undertaken on the Company's behalf are conducted in manner which fully complies with Barrett Steel Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental and Group Policies.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on overhead travelling cranes and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and undertake effective repairs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis following equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maximise crane availability and reliability through proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Achieve high first-time fix rates to minimise downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Provide technical guidance on crane operation, maintenance, and lifting activities.
  • Complete Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Point of Work Risk Assessments.
  • Collect and report crane performance data monthly to management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance.

All About You
You will be a motivated and safety-conscious engineer with a strong technical background and a proactive approach to maintenance and problem-solving.

Essential Skills for the role:
  • Be Safety focused and adhere to current standards relevant.
  • Qualification in an appropriate Electrical and/or Mechanical discipline.
  • Strong electrical knowledge and practical experience with overhead cranes.
  • Experience working with Konecranes, ABUS, and Demag crane systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults.
  • Working knowledge of current lifting industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience working at height and understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • IPAF 3a and 3b certification.

Desirable Qualifications
  • LEEA Diploma or equivalent lifting industry qualification.
  • IOSH Health & Safety certification.
